It took him almost two years, now e.no’s debut EP “I really, really like the light” is set to release on October 5, 2018.
While everyone’s brushing their tracks with Autotune and fit their sound into an 80s category box, e.no feels less committed to a short-lived Zeitgeist of current pop music und just keeps on writing: songs. And releases an EP, after long thought, that stirs far from genre-bound categories and an overly polished shape. “I really, really like the light” therefore gathers both radio-ready as well as less format-oriented material.The electro-popping single “Follow the green light” starts off with a very catchy, optimistic attitude. Swirling, shimmering synthies remind us of the traces of long-years Erasure perpetuation, when the chorus then hits us with a baffling Dubstep bass, while e.no’s falsettos instantly mediates with us. Don’t you worry, he sings, it will only take a little time until you’re ready for new things. Yes, well.
The demanding Breakbeat spectacle “(Do You Like) Space Travel?” urges you to start fidgeting and gives little to no room for dreamy couch potatoes. With such an urgent question, e.no unravels a whole fan of soundscapes over the listener, and provides a solid fundament with a rattling, yet stable broken beat. As if there was no time to lose to hit the space capsule, jolly as it may.
A lot more dense and graspable appears “Don’t come clean”. It focuses pleasingly on e.nos voice and lyrics and convinces with down-to-earth Trip Hop aesthetics, a very present sub bass and more concise, narrow instrumentation.
With “Sail—Return” you’ll find yourself at the very quiet and broken-down edge of the EP. This song has such a dynamic soul, you’d almost feel e.no’s vocals bodily. A sparse, precious instrumentation way beyond any synth battles exposes e.no’s glimmering roots in the Singer/Songwriter craft.With all its diversity and multiple layers of expression, there is nonetheless a concept to e.no’s first EP. Life is colourful, and light!, and thus we are to study on which paths e.no strives to commit to musically in the future.

e.no is a solo artist, producer and DJ from Berlin.
Finding inspiration in Nordic Singer/Songwriters, Indie Pop, trashy 90s radio Dance and electronic funk, he oscillates and conciliates between honest, hand-crafted songwriting and the glittering, noise-heavy parallel sphere of electronic music. Be it a sparsely arranged, almost inaudible acoustic song or a massive, itchy dance track – he always stays devoted to new inspirations and forms of expression.
Besides continuous performances on festivals and stages in Germany and Europe, e.no writes music for theatre plays, animation films, web TV series and a smartphone game, but also produces and remixes other artists and projects.

Zwei Jahre hat es gedauert, jetzt erscheint e.nos Debut-EP „I really, really like the light“ am 5. Oktober 2018.
Während alle Welt mit Autotune gebürsteten Vocals und retrospektivem 80er-Sound auf einer Welle schwimmt, sieht sich e.no weniger dem kurzlebigen Zeitgeist der aktuellen Popmusik verschrieben und schreibt einfach: Songs. Und bringt nach langer Überlegung keine Format-EP heraus, die sich mühelos im Genrekästchen ablegen lassen will.
Auf „I really, really like the light“ versammeln sich deshalb genauso verdächtig radiofähiges Material als auch weniger Formatkonformes.Mit der elektropoppigen Single „Follow The Green Light“ schafft e.no allerdings einen sehr eingängigen, versöhnlichen Auftakt. Die wabernden, flirrenden Synthies lassen die Spuren jahrelanger Erasure-Verewigung erkennen, bis im Chorus dann verblüffend ein Dubstep-Bass im Untergrund wabert und e.nos Falsettgesang darüber vermittelt. Alles nicht so schlimm, singt er, es braucht nur ein bisschen Zeit, bis du wieder nach Neuem strebst. Na gut.
Das fordernde, zum Mithopsen überzeugende Breakbeat-Spektakelchen „(Do You Like) Space Travel?“ lässt allerdings wenig Spielraum für versonnene Stubenhocker. Mit dieser dringlichen Frage klappt e.no einen ganzen Fächer an Soundwelten über dem Zuhörer aus und untermauert es mit einem klappernden, aber stabilen gebrochenen Beat. Als gäbe es keine Zeit zu verlieren, die Raumkapsel schleunigst, und dann auch noch gut gelaunt zu besteigen.
Wesentlich dichter und greifbarer gebart sich „Don’t Come Clean“. Mit erdiger Trip-Hop-Ästhetik, einem sehr präsenten Subbass und klarer Instrumentierung stellt es stärker e.nos Gesang und den Text in den Fokus.
Bei „Sail—Return“ gelangt man an den absoluten Ruhepunkt am Ende der EP. Der Song, im wahrsten Sinne, hat eine derartige dynamische Seele, dass man im fast schon körperlich spürbaren Gesang und der sparsamen Instrumentierung jenseits von Synthieschlachten e.nos Wurzeln bei den Singern/Songwritern hell schimmern sieht.Bei aller Mehrschichtigkeit in ihrer Ausdrucksweise findet sich trotzdem ein Konzept in e.nos erster EP. Das Leben ist bunt, und hell!, und so bleibt zu beobachten, welche Pfade e.no musikalisch in Zukunft begehen wird.
About e.no
e.no ist Solokünstler, Produzent und DJ aus Berlin. Inspiriert von nordischen Singer/Songwritern, Indiepop, trashigem 90er-Dance und Electro-Funk, changiert und vermittelt e.no zwischen handgemachtem, ehrlichem Songwriting und der schillernden, kopflastigen Parallelwelt der Elektronik. Ob mit sparsam arrangierten, nahezu lautlosen Acousticsongs oder wuchtig-kratzigen Dancetracks – er verschreibt sich stets neuen Inspirationen und Ausdrucksformen.
Neben kontinuierlichen Auftritten auf Festivals und Bühnen in Deutschland, Prag, New York, Bukarest und Kopenhagen, schreibt e.no Musik u.a. für Theaterstücke, Animationsfilme, Web-Fernsehserien und ein Smartphonespiel und produziert und remixt andere Projekte und Künstler. Derzeit schreibt und produziert er sein Solo-Album, das im Herbst 2020 erscheinen wird.
